My next adventure...pastel pink
It is time!! It has been a little over a year since I have done one of my signature hair-color changes. Currently, my hair is in its natural blonde state, before that it was black, before that purple, before that hot pink, and the list goes on. I love the thrill of a drastic physical change.
Let me reflect back. The black hair came to be during finals week, the purple was an upcoming wedding, and the hot pink was a breakup. It always seems that when I am undergoing stress I seek out this small, simple change in my life. When I feel like I am stuck in a given situation and don't have the option to make a choice, I change my hair color.
This got me to wondering; what is this main source of stress pushing me this time? I am enjoying my new job, things are good with the family, but my relationship life is definitely a problem. This, though, is nothing new, so I am not sure that this is the cause. Maybe, i am just ready to be noticed. Maybe, I want a little attention. I am usually ok with being in the background and letting everyone else lead. Maybe, I am expecting this out of the ordinary hair color to boost my confidence and help me take a hesitant step forward.
Needless to say, my family hates the idea of me having pink hair again. My ex-boyfriend that I really care about, well that was a major put down. It seems that if I change my hair color it will change who I am in his eyes. I agree, looks are very important at times. It is important to look professional and keep yourself well-kept, but just because I have pink hair doesn't change who I am. I am still a caring, friendly, and ordinary person. I am simply trying to define myself and most of all express myself. I am artistic. I love the beauty of the world, the colors and the textures. I want to be part of that myself. I don't want to always be just like everyone else.
I understand that doing this will cause me to be judged by people, even by people who know me. I admit that even I judge people based on first impressions. While these physical impressions can tell us a lot about someone's life, it doesn't define the person that they are. Recently, I met a man covered in tattoos and piercings with his hair piled high in dreads. I was immediately intimidated by his appearance, but after talking to him I realized he was one of the friendliest people you could ever meet. This made me so happy. He has expressed himself exteriorly in a way many people don't understand or approve of but has maintained the kind and gentle person that he is.
I have three tattoos and have had my share of piercings and different hair colors. I am sure that I don't always look like the good girl that mothers want their sons to meet, but I think that I would make an amazing girlfriend despite the color of my hair. It scares me that I won't meet the right person because he will judge me wrongly, but if this is the case then he wasn't the guy for me.
I also have an important role in the community now with my job. I have only been with this job for three months but have already started to establish myself in this position and people now recognize who I am. I am hoping that this change of my physical self won't change their judgements of me in anyway, but overall I am really excited to see people's reactions. I have noticed throughout my life that I love to shock people. That shock factor is like an adrenaline rush for me. It has probably gotten me in trouble a time or two by saying things I shouldn't have, but it's always something that has got me going.
Well, I think this one will do the trick! Next time you see me, I will probably have a different hair color. I am going in to have Alex Giessler at Next in Van Wert do my hair. She does wonderful things and is great at her job. I am excited to have her do this for me. I definitely recommend her work.
